Earlier this year, LBx Africa Producer, Ivy Kiru was accepted into the SOME FINE DAY PiX program, a continuation of the ONE FINE DAY FILMS Workshop series which was founded by One Fine Day Films, Ginger Ink Films Africa and German Development Cooperation in Nairobi, Kenya.
SOME FINE DAY PiX provides digital state-of-the-art training opportunities for African filmmakers.
After the training, the filmmakers organized themselves in teams of 3; Writer, Director and Producer to pitch a potential short film to a grant jury composed of Wangeci Murage (MediaPros Africa), Letitia Ouko (KFC) Mandy Rahn (ARRI), Simiyu Barasa (Filmmaker), Mohamed Ouma (Documentary Africa, DOC-A) and Taye Balogun (The NGO International Film Festival, NGOIFF).
The top three Kenyan short film teams each received KES 2 Mil. in production funding.
Congratulations are in order for LBx Producer Ivy Kiru for having 2 films that she was part of secure production grants. The three winning short films in the inaugural 2021 funding program are:
- ACT OF LOVE by producer Shirleen Wangari, scriptwriter Shelly Gitonga and director Eric Mwangi: A moving drama of a young mother who has been dealt ablow during COVID-19, losing her job and struggling to provide for her child.
- MAWIMBI by producer Ivy Kiru, scriptwriter Ian Wanjohi and director Mark Wambui: It depicts the struggle for survival of three fishermen stranded at the Indian Ocean, tested as individuals and collectively.
- INHERITANCE by producer Ivy Kiru, scriptwriter Ngwatilo Mawiyoo and director Barbara Minishi: The film tells the story of a young woman encountering her own destiny facing her families´ past.
