MATABELELAND FILM - KENYA PREMIERE

Events  /  9th February 2026

October was a beautiful full-circle moment for Matabeleland (Directed by Nyasha Kadandara, Produced by Sam Soko). After screening around the world, the film finally had its Kenyan premiere at the NBO Film Festival.

We were in awe of the love, support, and positive reception it received here in Nairobi a Zimbabwean story that has found such deep resonance with local audiences in Nairobi.

The premiere at Prestige Cinema was well attended, a night filled with emotion, reflection, and connection, followed by a thoughtful Q&A with film director Nyasha Kadandara and Producer Sam Soko.

The weekend continued with community and art-space screenings at Kaloleni Social Hall and Unseen Nairobi, both packed with audiences eager to engage in deep conversation about history, identity, and healing.
Each screening carried its own energy, from laughter to reflections, a reminder that Matabeleland is more than a film, it’s an opportunity to open dialogue and find healing.

The journey didn’t stop there. After its Nairobi run, Matabeleland continued to travel  making its 2nd European stop at the Bergen International Film Festival, and next heading to two of the world’s leading documentary stages:

  • DOC NYC (U.S.) — November 19, 2025
  • IDFA (Netherlands) — November 15–21, screening in the Best of Fests section

Each of these moments adds to what this journey is really about; sharing African stories across borders, while returning them home to the audiences they were made for.
